Woot! New kitchen ceiling!

I moved into my house in 2000. Built in Sterling Forest as a miner's cabin, it was rolled to Suffern in 1925, and now I have the smallest house in the area: a cabin in suburbia.

The people who lived here before me somehow lived with a drugstore drop-ceiling type of thing in the kitchen. Now, I'm all about the 'make do' and 'deal with it' lifestyle... I mean, it took me 8 years to paint the darn bedroom, and I still haven't dealt with the floors, so I really shouldn't wonder. But I really couldn't deal w/ the ceiling, so I ripped it down. I wanted the joists and subfloor to show. Nice and cabin-y. My dad volunteered to come over with his paint sprayer and together we'd paint the ceiling wood dark brown. After drop-clothing the entire room, we discovered the sprayer didn't work when pointing UP. So my dad went home. I painted it all with a brush. Took me from 10 PM till 2 AM. Yak. But it got done. And it stayed that way until I looked at it with my friend Pat the builder and said, over tea, I think I'd like tongue and groove up there. And (almost) Presto! And, I painted all the cabinetry white. Sweet!

Before, After

That was late last summer. Yesterday, I installed a long, narrow shelf to display stuff and unclutter surfaces. I'm not sure I found studs, so we'll see if it lives forever, as shelves should.

And, yes, I will paint the bottom of the brackets the wall color...someday...;)
