Privacy trellis i built - yay!

While I like my 'hood, I am kinda tired of being on display to my next door neighbor every time I chill on my deck.  I've wanted to build a trellis for a while now, and finally got motivated today and hunted for the materials.  My across-the-street neighbor, Sam, is a good partner-in-crime for projects like this.  He's 86 and going strong.  I popped over and told him my plan.  He said, "I have 2x4s!" and gave me two 14 foot 2x4s that were lying at the side of his house.  I sawed them each in half and we screwed them to the deck.

Now for trellis. Sam told me there were two pieces behind another neighbor's garage. So we took 'em (Sam made me do it).  We both noticed the trellis pieces while we were house sitting for them during the previous two weeks. I confessed after they got home from work. Since they were basically languishing there, I figured they'd be cool with my removing virtual garbage for them. I was right. (Thanks, guys!)

And the trim for the top and bottom were in my basement since I moved in.

So, all found materials: recycled or reused. Green project! Woot!

Next step: paint it. Then plant flower boxes of Clematis. Will be lovely.

And this is from where Crickey lounged and oversaw the work.

And THIS is what the little flower garden looks like now!

And, lastly, when I was cleaning up after watering the little garden, building the trellis and making regular visits to the hydrangea bush to pet the cat, I found THIS big guy on the stick of bamboo in a vase on my deck table. Yikes!
