Really, they're not jerks. I was actually the jerk of the group. I was married to the guitar player for 13 years, so one has to expect a bit more than the usual band infighting. (If you ever read this, guys, I'm sorry for that.) It was really hard to be in a band with my mate!
My first real band, Infradig, started in 1993 with my roommate AM. Some guy we knew played drums for a day or so. I'm not sure at this point we ever actually played. Anyways, D came along and pulled us together. Then AM found S in the aisles of Tower Records (RIP) and he switched from bongos and keys in a world beat band to kit drums for Infradig.
Then AM left us and we were a power post punk trio for a bunch of years. All original music. We played a lot and loaded in and out of our 7th floor walk-up loft every weekend. Mantra: "I love
loading in. It's fun and it's good for me." Man, I had muscles at that time.
Eventually, life took over and Infradig went on hiatus.

After we left the city for Suffern, NY and visited a few local pubs and bars, we realized that there was this animal called a "cover band." Who knew!? So we learned four songs and trotted down to the local open mic, got a gig and quickly had to learn three more hours worth of songs. Sheesh! That band, Succotash, lasted about three years and it was a BLAST playing covers. Copying (and sometimes adding your own musical opinion into the mix) state of the art music is a good learning program. I wish I started w/ that instead of originals. Doi.
Around 2003
I joined the Von Ghouls, at Infradig's drummer's request (his project at the time). Then, of course, D came along after a couple months and really pulled us together (yeah, he's good) and we became a real band.Flash forward to me being a jerk for a couple years and the band dissolving circa April 2007. The Von Ghouls are back together sans moi now, and I wish them luck.
But they'll never rock as hard without me...hee hee.
